Summer Intensive 5 Dance Camp-Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Summer Intensive (SI) 5 Dance Camp?

Six years ago, the Summer Intensive Dance camp was a means of training members of Team Millennia in the summer to get them ready for upcoming auditions and the competition season. SI 5 Dance Camp, created by Team Millennia and held at the Team Millennia Dance Center has become one of the most popular summer dance programs to help aspiring dancers to become better technically and physically in hopes of becoming a better all-around dancer. This year, we’ve added a Jazz/Funk component and more sessions to the Seniors Advanced levels.

In the past 5 years, we’ve had the honor of training up-and-coming dancers from ACA Hip Hop, Breed, CADC, Chaotic 3, Chill Factor, Common Ground, GRV, Kaba Modern, Mavyn Ent., MCIA, NSU Modern, PAC Modern, Samahang Modern, Sheroes, and more…

2. Why should I take SI 5 Dance Camp?

SI 5 Dance Camp gives an aspiring dancer an opportunity to continue training in various styles of dance under an intense setting. Whether you a beginner, intermediate, or advanced dancer, there are many class sessions to fit your need. You also have a chance to show off what you learned at the SI 5 Dance Showcase in late August.

3. Does taking the summer camp increase your chances of making TM Juniors or Team Millennia?

Taking the summer camp increases your chances of making either TM Juniors or Team Millennia for many reasons. One reason is you will learn a lot of the different styles and techniques used for both teams from the in-house choreographers. Our choreographers are both experienced and professional teachers who have the knowledge and confidence to pass on their skills of hip hop dancing to young dancers.

4. I’m new to the dance camp…What should I expect?

You should expect to be CHALLENGED…You should also expect to be practicing at home, in the car, in your sleep, and during any free time you may have. You will learn a completely different piece every time you enter the studio to take class. Lastly, you will only get out of the summer intensive what you put into it. You will only become better if your determination and passion to learn increases with every class. Lastly, plan on losing several pounds and getting into better physical shape.

5. How do I know if I’m beginning, intermediate, or advanced?

Generally if you are new to hip hop dance and have never taken a dance class then you would sign up for a Beginning sessions. If you are still progressing with learning choreography, different styles, and technique then the Intermediate sessions is for you. If you want to push yourself to that next level and are determined to work hard and take your dancing to that next level, then the Advanced sessions are for you!!!

6. What is the difference between Combo? Juniors? Seniors?

“Combo” is a combination class of all ages. “Juniors” is a class for those between the ages of 12 and 17. “Seniors” is a class for those who are at least graduating seniors (18 y/o) and older.

7. What is the difference between Session 1 and Session 2?

Session 1 takes place between Monday, June 16th and Saturday, July 12th. Session 2 takes place between Monday, July 14th and Friday, August 8th. You may consider taking both sessions to remain consistent with your dancing.

8. Can I take more than 1 session? How long is each session?

You are encouraged to take both sessions to really build your skill and technique in hip hop dance. Dancers may also take advantage of our weekly Intermediate Master class on Saturday @ 6:00 PM and Advanced Master class on Friday @ 8:00 PM.

9. What if I can only make a portion of the session?
If you are only able to attend a portion of the session, you will need to learn the choreography from another classmate. We do not prorate any regular fees as it wouldn’t be fair or consistent to the other dancers who may have similar situations.

10. Who are the choreographers/teachers for the camp?

The choreographers and teachers of the camp are from TM Juniors, Team Millennia, Sheroes, and the LA Industry. The schedule of choreographers will be release sometime in May.
